Just for you guys to know, my folks flew in here a few days ago and my brother and his bitch is coming here tomorrow =) yey it's gonna be a lot of fun! Anyway, I've never been this underexcited about Christmas, it's almost the 23rd as I'm typing and I don't really care. Can be due to Californian weather and zero Holiday ambience. Maybe I'm becoming older and more boring, hope not...Went and checked out some Jeeps today at the dealer, I like :) I would like very much actually.
other than that not so much has happened. I'm moving out of a12 to a villa in the mountains we've rented for ze brodds. It kicks ass actually as we got a bigger one than suspected, kinda Cribs like if I may say. peace

Yes! all my finals are over and a looong winter break is ahead of me! couldn't be much sweeter. looking forward to some tight surfin' (confession: haven't actually ridden a wave yet, just kneesurfed) and exploring of California. On the 19th my parents are coming over here, rented a house up in the mountains so its gonna be nice. My brother and his girl arrives the 23 I think and stays for a week. Have to give them a sort of quick tour of SB, LA and all that stuff :)
On Sunday Cippo goes home to Sweden for some time, and the other guys are going back soon too I guess. gonna be empty here, buhu. anyway a new friend arrived at the door yesterday and goes by the name Patrick Bateman! hihi found a sort of doll on Amazon and thought I needed some who looked after me. really cute you know.
On Friday, Petter (the surfdude) has his going away party, seems like everybody leaves this place. Erik is going to New York and Hawaii with some friends :D sounds awesome! So I'll basically be the only swede left here over Christmas. Anyone wanna come over to join me? Just give a comment guys.

I don't know if there is so much more to say here really. Going to eat brunch now, I'm starving. Hopefully make it downtown today to do some shopping.

L.A. is f***ing A!

This weekend me, Cippo and Erik took the train down to experience Los Angeles. I'm kind of lazy so will only sum up the story for you guyg. Look at the picutres on Flickr by the way, pictures tells more than a 1000 words huh?
Anyway, we lived in a cheap hostel right across the Chinese Theatre :D, could it be more central? Right on Hollywood blvd/Higland. So we went around, did some shopping, took a limo tour around beverly hills & bel air, walked Rodeo Drive up and down, saw the L.A. Autoshow, got free tickets to a tv-show called MadTV (if you got fox, check it out on dec 16 at 11pm:) maybe you'll see us in the audience), saw David Spade (a celebrity, yey!) and just enjoyed new places. auusome!

Today I had my final in economics, hope it went well. Got my linguistics final coming up on tuesday also. Finals suck really. But, after them I'm gonna surf "sönder" the ocean and relax, party etc etc etc.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving? What should international students with barely no relatives in California do over Thanksgiving? The idea is that people go home to their families, dine and chat around. Apparently, California Tours had a trip to San Francisco & Yosemite National Park over the Thanksgiving weekend so me, cippo and erik said: fuck it, let's go! And so we did.
So off we went on thursday morning with, some italians, swiss, german, southamerican and 200 523 asian people. Long but kinda decent bus trip up to SF. Finally we arrived to a quite nice hotel by Union Square in the middle of the city. For Thanksgiving dinner we went to Hard Rock Cafe for a really traditional turkey dinner. It was okay though. Back at the hotel we met up with the italians&co for a room party. Got some beer and stuffed and socialized a bit. Cool guys actually, got to know them a lot better then :) Got one of the best quotes ever from a swiss guy when we discussed playstation. He had played a car game for 6months, 2hours a day and just finished 39% when tried the same game that day and had already come 20%. His comment was (with a swiss/german accent): "Ooooh My God! I haaaate youuu guuuys!" :D
The next day, Friday, we went up to a look-out place to take some photographs, luckily I screwed up the aperture on the camera so all pictures went almost black:( By the way, out tour guide was the weirdest ever alive. Half french-american kinda guy, trying to make jokes, bad grammar and English and had his personal opinions on life generally. When we went around in the city he explained which people were guy and pointed at them. "Look that guy is showing the finger, he wants to fuck you" he said at a time. Hmm.. Also he tried to make jokes, some sexistic and some just really bad. Anyway he did some guiding in the city too. Later on we checked out the Fisherman's Wharf with all its piers and shops. Sweet place it is. When passing by a game shop I wondered if they might have a PS3 here. All of them are like sold out in Cali, but I figured I'd give it a shot. And guess what? They HAD one! =) So now I'm a proud owner of one and it's amazing! Should have a HDTV though, to get the full experience out of it. That was just a parenthesis. After the piers, we boarded the boat to Alcatraz! Yey. Just being on the island and watching the whole San Francisco bay was worth the whole trip! Really sweet I can tell you. Alcatraz itself was pretty cool, remembered some places from The Rock. Got some nice pictures there aswell. Visit my Flickr to see them.
Afterwards we had some time to go around and check out the town. We had to visit Lombard Street, you know the really curvy road, because it IS San Francisco in some ways. Later on in the night we decided to be men and went to Hooters for a nice meal. Although, it was a bit of disappointed cause the girls weren't that good looking. Anyway, been there, done that and we went back to hotel. Tired so I and Cippo went to bed. Erik on the other hand, know some people from IV who was here in SF so he met up with them. He had fun I guess, he came back at seven in the morning smiling.
On saturday we headed out to Yosemite National Park. Took like a lot of hours, maybe 5. Was quite a scenic drive though up the mountains and so. Well there we had a big lunch. The idea was that we should hop on our bus and get a guided tour around the park, but we missed the bus. Luckily, we found the Yosemite tour bus which went around for free. After going four stops, we figured that this tour would take to long cause we would miss the our bus back to the hotel. So we got off and started walking back to the main centre. We found the visitor center somehow and asked what to do in so short time by foot and got directions to a waterfall and stuff. Saw some deers on the way also.
Then we found our bus and went to the hotel nearby. Awesome room actually, really big with a nice tv, jacuzzi and pool next to it also!
SOoo next day we headed to the Sequoia trees, crazy big trees by the way. That was something cool walking around in the forest with giant sequoias and red woods all around. Our friendly tour guide figured it wold be fun to go around barefoot in the forest (like 4°C outside) and walking in rivers and offroad. Stupid guy.
Then we headed back to SB, our little adventure was over and a long bus ride was ahead of us.
Came back at about 8p.m.

Woke up at 6am today, that's like realy early you know. The sun hadn't even set by then. The reason was that Petter asked me to take some pictures of him surfin' by the sunset. It sounded cool to me so I joined him. So we met up by on the street and headed for campus point, it was really cold by then. Well there Petter jumped in and I climbed up the hill to get a better view. When the sun set later on, it was all worth it I can tell you people. Awesome!

Our neighbors are really really stupid

Okay, so thanks to our neighbors, the wonderful fans are back in A12! Not fans like groupies ore likely, but big blowing machines. Apparently our neighbors don't know how to operate a toilet, and therefore they used it as a garbagecan, throwing down cartons, towels, cats, food and anything you can think of (maybe a little exaggerated). This causes the effect of malfunctioning the toilet and it cloggs. Our pipes and the pipes from the neighbors are connected, which makes our toilet to overflow aswell. This morning we noticed the toilet downstairs was overflowed with nasty nasty, brown water. We managed to get rid of the water by flushing, but some of it made its way to the floor. So cippo and I had to dry it up, very nice.
Some time later the plumberman came by and got rid of the clogg somehow.

Anyway, today we had planned to take a biketrip up to the mountains or as far as we could manage. This incident should not get in our way so we mounted the bikes and headed out. Didn't have a plan really so we went against the mountains. It is really beautiful outside the towns with orange and lemon farms and stuff. Apparently our road lead to a dead end so we had to go back for some miles. Then we headed south instead, it sloped downhill that way so it was nice! hiihi. After some time we found some posh neighborhoods and headed up against the mountains again. Guess what, we found another dead end. But there was some fun downhill riding there, but we also had to go up them when we found the deadend. Grr. Yeah so we were a bit tired and decided to go west now and try to find somewhere to rest. Didn't take long till we found a Starbucks actually, nice! After the pit-stop Chimney Sweeps was the goal.

When we entered the door to the apartment, we found that the fans are back. Oh splendid! Apparently, the walls had some damage from before by the leak and this clogging-adventure didn't help it that much. And we had planned to have a förfest here too. Fu**ing neighbors. Just D's "grannar" just says it all? aiiight

Surfboard bought! Taxidrivers suck!

Bought a surfboard yesterdat downtown! Gotta try it out today! we said that we should buy this board together and another to begin with. It's a longboard(will post pictures later, gonna take some at the beach:)) and should bea good start board.
Oh and taxidrivers here really suck! First our plan was to bring home the board by bus, but apparently there are some regulations so in an emergency, it would be an projectile and stuff. Bah, silly. So we asked a taxiguy if he could call some collegue with a bigger car. "yes" he said, and "wait, wait". 10minutes later the exact same small car came taht was here before! Whatever we thought it should work out. So the taxidriver put it in the trunk with some string attachments and stuff. Off we go and after some minutes we hit quite a big jump in the road, and the taxidriver quickly turned over and stopped. Bad news: something in the trunk had made a hole in the board! oh that's just perfect mr taxidriver. So he realized that it would fit in the car, which it did quite good also. And so we drove home, with a nice discount on the trip. Anyway, I repaired the damage yesterday, I'm such a handyman you know, and we're gonna try it out today hopefully! I'm so excite!

Buuh! So it is time for Halloween then! or actually the "real" halloween is not until tuesday but everyone has been partying since thursday so..it's nice.
What happens here in IV on halloween? yes about 30 000 students dress up and go to Del Playa and party around. The thing is though that the police is not so happy by this so there is also 250 officers standing around and being annoying. But that doesn't do so much, except that the parties have moved out onto the street :) crazy crazy. I think that hte pictures will tell more than I can describe you know! enjoy

Move-in vs calamity

So when we had got all the furniture put up and in place, it was time for a pipe to burst if course. On Sunday afternoon I noticed a lot of water on the kitchen floor...hmmm strange I thought. Then I realized the whole wall was wet! Also, the bathroom floor next to the kitchen was full of water and the roof had big balls of water pointing out! The wall was like soaking and soft. Not so good I thought and told the others about it. Crap really, because we wanted to keep our deposition..
We went and told Dave the Man at once and he took a look at it, called a plumber and a carpenter(some of the carpet was full of water to). Dave was quite cool with it and said that it would sort out. Some pipe had apparently blewn (mexican building is #1) or whatever so it came down water through the wall to downstairs and through the ventilation system. So now we have two giant fans blowing air downstairs in the living room and the bathroom. They have been on constantly for two days and hopefully we'll get rid of them tomorrow. It really sucks; we can't sit and watch tv or eat at the dining table. Damn mexicans!

Otherwise school rolls on and I've got some mid-terms next week in economics and linguistics. It will be tough, have to study a lot this weekend plus that halloween comes to! Whatever, it sorts out somehow I guess.
Today I'll head downtown to check out some camera stands (think it's called that, maybe tripod) and some clothes too. Know there is a Abercrombie&Fitch on state street:) wanna find an American Apparell store too. yeah, I've got to get out of IV a little, have kinda been stuck here recently. Had some howework stuff and other things came in the way.
Also, I'll go looking for wetsuits, Petter said that I really need a wetsuit if I wanna start surfin. The water is about 16°C or something so it isn't that warm really. It also protect a little if I hit rocks or killerwhales :o. yeah so that's the agenda today.
Still, if you find a picture worth to be sent in to the competition please comment it or something. Gonna try take some more pictures soon, havn't had the time lately.

Today was a slow day with some studies and relaxing. Kinda nice to have a day doing not much. Just been to the library printing some stuff for homework and then been in the house.

So, thursday I bought my longboard! I have been looking around and asking people what to get, where and at which price and ended up at the surfshop here in IV and bought a sector9 board. cosmic series I think. Many people are skating around here and I have wanted one for a long time you know. It's a perfect transportation when it's all flat here, no steep hills to mess around with. nice. So I got to practice some more before I post pictures of it and riding. Can't really say I've skated much before so it's going to be interesting.

On friday me, cippo and erik went to try the local golf course here! It's called Ocean Meadows I think and it was quite decent, it was really fun to play though! It has been a while since last time but it went fairly good. Cippo who hadn't played for 5years (at least he told us so) started with a perfect shot at the first tee. Kinda lowered mine and eriks self-asteem a bit.. :p He was just lucky. By the way, we rented to golf carts because we are so lazy and they only costed us 18 dollars total :o!
damn, it is so much fun driving golf carts! skidding, accelerating and racing around on the cartlanes is so underestimated! haha, we have got to play more golf here. We actually went in on eBay to look for golfcarts to buy, van the man style, but they were a bit expensive though. too bad.. I also posted some pictures from the game at flickr.

Yeah and yesterday we went to Del Playa (it's crazy by the way) because sofia knew someone who had a party there. Always good to know someone having a party there, though not necessary but better. it was a great place actually: crowded, good music and free beer. bad thing was that mr sheriff thought it was too fun so he came and ended the party at 1. he is so gay. nobody cares if there is a time limit for partys, next weekend Del Playa is crazy again. (krs one style)
oh and a tip, if you want cheaper hang-overfood, go to a pizzeria and ask for pizzas who havn't been picked up!:) we got two newly made for half the price, nice!

Hey everybody! The sun shines on in Santa Barbara and school goes on like normal. Not much new has happened lately. The people who's supposed to put up the blinds still hasn't come yet so I have to wait to take photos of the apartment. Too bad..
But, today when I was in the UCSB Bookstore and buying frames for my pictures, I discovered a photography contest! Deadline for photos is the 15th of November, so I'm looking through the pictures I have right now to find someone special. I can send in two and I have some time to discover new motives and places until then. It would help me a lot if you people could help me pick some to send in! Beach and Lagoon Trip

Headed out to the lagoon by UCSB West Campus and took some pictures there. Really beautiful now with this weather, perfect jogging route! Check out the new pictures on flickr, the link is on the right side so just go for it!

Oh another thing, IKEA came with the last stuff today so now we're all set. Then when the blinds are up I'll go and take some pictures of the apartment so you guys can get an idea of how it looks. :) Were and saw the soccer game between UCSB and UCLA yesterday too. They won by 3-1 those f**kers, grrr. .. The spirit in the stadium was crazy thoug, loads of people were drunk and just shouted "yeah!" "you go!" and stuff. Cool.

Today we had the best weather yet! Just clearblue skies and like 25°C. Typically, I did not have so much time to enjoy it... Economic lecture, extension class, had to talk to some teachers, talk with IKEA about the missing furnitures, do some other errands and soon I have a Linguistics discussion. But there comes more days to enjoy. If it's good weather tomorrow I'll go and shoot of some pictures for y'all.

I think I'll wait and put up pictures when we have received the other furnitures. Right now some spanish men are putting in blinds in the bedrooms and they spill sawdust everywhere and mess about. Doesn't look so good really.

This weekend I, Erik and some people planned to go slice some balls at Santa Barbara's golf course. I'm reaaally looking forward to play here, these courses are almost too good to be true. Niiice.
Also have to go andsurf soon, longing for that too. Loads of people are going around with there surfboards here in IV. I took some pictures from the beach and put them up on flickr, check them out on my previous link!

and in we have gone! so much stuff to unpack and screw together. the place is crowded with stuff and furniture. right now everybody is in the livingroom and working with one beer each listening to kanye from the west. kinda cool you know. today i went to different classes trying to enroll. went to an economics class and the teacher is really cool. old guy with long white hair and guess what, he drives an old ford mustang. i like. gotta go figure out if I want to read french or language&linguistics. don't know yet. I have taken some pictures when moving in but will post them together with pictures when it's done. so you can see the difference :) seems about all for the time beeing. now i'm downloading the new prison break episode from itunes. nice!

Hey! So a few more days have past by in Santa Barbara and everything is goood. Yesterday I was at the swedish party downtown, it was alright. Though, the dj could have skipped linda bengtzing and gyllene tider and played some good house instead. but, whatever. Before the party I and Cippo went to Jakob (check out the project santa barbara link) who is making music with a friend and studies at the SBCC. Really cool and chill guy and we had a great time. The funny thing is that I had never met him before, got to know him a little through the wonders of internet! when I got there I like: who of you is Jakob? kinda funny. so after a while 15 other swedish people stormed in with beer and stuff. had a great time there and later on came two limousines to tkae us downtown. I like.

so today I was at the university checking out some cool ucsb shirts and sweaters. tried to take some pictures for you guys to get a small overview of how it looks:). nice. the same day i was with some people watching petter ride some waves on the beach. wasn't that great weather though. are really looking forward to get a board or try ot petter's board! looks so cool and chill.
also we got our second roommate now! great success. he's a former marine, though he just was it for a year or something so don't get any rushed thougts. really cool and easy to talk with. except him we have another american dude from l.a. also relaxed and seemed to take one day at a time. he's 23 by the way;) and both of them has a car, peerfect.

I am going to gain weight here! americans really like to eat fat food, i can tell you. the hotell serves white bread, quite bad coffe, sweat juice and donuts for breakfast! donuts is awfully tasty though, but maybe not for breakfast.. I just came back from a pizzadinner now, yummy yummy yummy i got love in my tummy. hiih. today i met with the student advisor and got some tips and answers. my first quarter will hopefully consist of english, economy and french. not too much though, don't want to waste time inside studying with this weather and life;) tomorrow it's the "swedish party", i don't now how it's going to be like. it's downtown and more than 100 swedish people is coming, crazy. and today i bought my old school cruiser bike, isn't it cool? hope these first pictures give you an idea of how it lookes a little. all of them are from isla vista, the student area. spoke with some italian guys today and they said that the road by the ocean here is craaaaaazzzy in the weekend! people just walk around there and it's partys in every house, you don't have to know someone, just enter the house and grab a beer. terrific!

Right now I am sitting in the computerroom in UCSB. Feels great to be here! Just before we visited the apartment I and Christopher are going to stay in and it is just awesome! Two stories: downstairs it's the living room and a kitchen, quite big actually and upstairs it's two bedrooms. There's also a bathroom on each floor. The best part is that it's going to be totally renovated! So we'll get it in one week. Nice!
Later on today we're exploring the UCSB area and maybe go into town aswell. The weather today is about 23 degrees and rather humid, it couldn't be better actually. I feel that this was quite a boring report and will try to take some pictures today and post them later. I've got internet in the hotel.

Today Christopher's father rang us and said that they had found an apartment in Isla Vista just by UCSB!!! They have been looking for aparments for both Christopher and me the last week. It finally paid off! :)
I will write more when I get more information and where it is located.

Somebody took our nice apartment! Typical, chimney sweeps is supposed to be a really good place. Contacted Christopher again today and mailed a bit. Still trying to solve the housing problem. Erik and Charlotte also haven't found something. She is thinking of just seeking ads as a roommate. Maybe it's okay to take some of the 10-12month leases and try to hunt down some to share it with. Have to search further..

So I'm just writing to get used to write sometimes.. Wonder if anyone actually reads this? anyways.

The summer has in some way passed by and on this sunday, I go to Santa Barbara. Time really is crazy.. Today I brought up the big ass travel bags from the cellar and started pre-packing. Interesting huh?
The greatest news today was when I received a mail from Christopher (one of the swedes who's going to SB via CIS) and wondered if I wanted to share an apartment with him, an american and a japanese. It's in Isla Vista like two blocks away from UCSB, two stories and only a skate away from the beach. Nice! :) Hopefully the other guys will say yes. It would be a real relief to have the living fixed and worked out now.
I heard from Erik and Charlotte (some other swedes travelling with CIS) and they have had a rough week looking for apartments and such. They are right now living with some korean girl temporarily. I wish them good luck.. So I'll ad a beautiful picture for anyone who wants to now how the UCSB area and Isla Vista looks like from above:). And marking out where the house is Christopher mailed me about.

I got my swedish driving license Today!

Oh I am so happy that I got it before I go to America and of course just happy to get it! And on the first try to, yes nice. :)

So good luck to all you other people trying to get a driving license! It wasn't as horrible as I had believed.

I've created this blog to all you people who want to know what I'm up to. It's supposed to be my diary of some sort and I'll write what's happening over there. That's my plan and hopefully I'll stick to it...

So then, I'm leaving Gothenburg the 17e of September flying via Frankfurt directly to L.A., where I then will take the bus to Santa Barbara. Then after some time I'll fly back to Gothenburg, about late june is the plan right now. And in between that I have to attend three quarters at UCSB, the rest of the time is pretty unplanned.

But for anyone who's wanting to come over during Spring Break (yeah!), or whenever your free, you're all very welcome. It's between March 27-31, by the way.
